Q: How do I get my Guard Card?
A: Initially take the Phase 1 of the Powers to Arrest Course. Once completed, send the application to BSIS either online or through the mail with a $50 money order for processing. When the background check is approved BSIS will mail the permit.
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: A valid State Photo ID or Drivers License, a black ink pen & paper, and the class fee.
Q: Do I have to pre-register for class?
A: No. All classes except the UTAH CCW are on a walk-in basis.

A: No. All permits must be on your person to carry. Print outs and copies do NOT count.
Q: Do I need a permit to carry a Tazer?
A: No, but it is recommended to receive training before you do so. PSTA is putting together a course at this time.
FirearmsQ: How do I renew my firearm permit?
A: BSIS requires a 2 Hour refresher course PRIOR to the 4th requal. All the necessary paperwork is given at the time of the refresher to be received on the 4th requal to mail to the state.
Q: Do I need my own firearm to take the firearm permit class?
A: No.
Q: If I have my own firearm should I bring it to the class?
A: NO. Do NOT bring the firearm to the class. You may bring it to the range to use for qualification.
